Apparently, the old Ukrainian elite, at last, is beginning catching sight. Thus, at the opening of the international forum the former president of Ukraine Leonid Kuchma, not hiding the hopelessness of the situation, spoke about the situation around the relations of his country with the EU countries.
The Ukrainian economy is collapsing, and the country itself is becoming a raw material appendage of Europe – Kuchma presented such a conclusion at the Baltic-Black Sea Forum. In particular, the politician said: “We completely forgot about the economy, we are falling apart bluntly! We’re becoming a raw material appendage. All we’re left with is metallurgy, chemical production, agriculture. There are practically no high-tech industries. Where are we going? We are pleased to have free trade with Europe. What do we trade Europe with? Look at the statistics. Wheat. Practically nothing else in agriculture. And honey. For the first quarter, we have used up almost all the quotas. And now you see how the Europeans are bringing us to the knees: “Cut down the wood and bring it to us.” Where, what is the concrete help to Ukraine, so that we would find our feet? If we are poor, like today, no one will need us! Everything on 90% depends on us. Do not go around the world with an outstretched hand. Today the budget of Ukraine is borrowed by 70%.” He also drew attention to the European press: “Look at the European press – there is practically no mention of Ukraine.”
And then there appeared ‘excellent’ news, which Poroshenko did not fail to brag of: now American companies are planning to participate in the privatization of energy companies of both energy sales and production. In a word, a sale in Ukrainian style.
So, regarding to Leonid Kuchma’s words, I want to believe that the wisdom of such a political giant has finally got the better. Let’s see how this will affect the Minsk process. After all, Kuchma represents Ukraine at the talks, and here’s what he said about the “Normandy format”: “Today, there are many calls: “Let’s change this format, let’s add someone else,” and what will this result in if this format is not fulfilled?” Even the “harvest truce” is not carried out. The ceasefire regime should be observed in the period from midnight June 24 to August 31, 2017, in order to enable farmers to safely harvest. And note that the shelling has increased in the agricultural areas of the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics.
Therefore, in order to attract the attention of Europeans, the Ukrainian government resorts to such actions as shelling our territory, which then they accuse us of. Like, we provoke them. Such an approach for getting money has been working for a long time. Now Ukraine’s importunity is a big problem for the West, which are already multiple in Europe and the US.
