The Kiev mayor Vitaly Klichko suggested that the OSCE Chairman appoint a special representative to the Donbass, arguing this initiative “the need to strengthen the role of the OSCE in resolving the conflict.”
Also, the Kiev mayor pointed out that this OSCE representative could have contacted all the parties involved in the settlement of the conflict. In other words, Klichko calls to include OSCE monitoring mission representatives in the “Normandy format”.
This initiative, in my opinion, causes a lot of suspicions about the true motives for strengthening the OSCE role in the conflict settlement, especially given a number of incontrovertible evidences of the bias of the monitoring mission in covering events taking place in the Donbas.
We all remember the incident in Avdeyevka, when representatives of the OSCE SMM roamed alongside the Ukrainian security forces and armoured vehicles. Unfortunately, this is not an isolated incident, when international observers support one of the parties to the conflict on the instructions of the “leadership”, or rather – on behalf of Western political elites.
In this scenario, the suggestion to strengthen the role of the OSCE in the settlement of the conflict in the Donbass raises doubts about the effectiveness and performance of such an innovation on Ukraine’s initiative.
