The Deputy Head of the Security Service of Ukraine Victor Kononenko stated that there were cases of the DPR journalists switching sides, however, he did not mention any names. He claimed that such defectors were not judged in Ukraine. On the other hand, we can name the journalists who were detained there and brought back to the Republic during the exchange of prisoners with great difficulty.
We all remember the story of Donetsk journalist Elena Blokha, who was detained by the SSU in August 2014. Criminal proceedings were initiated against Elena under Article 258-3 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (establishing of terrorist group or organization).
The Ukrainian website “Mirotvorets” is known worldwide for its action, when journalists of international media, who visited the DPR, were identified as accomplices to terrorists. And law enforcement agencies can do nothing about this cynical and demonstrable violation of human rights.
And now, the SSU began to offer the DPR media workers to switch sides, promising that they would not be prosecuted.
In fact, we have seen regular reports of people being convicted even for posts in social media. International human rights defenders have found almost a hundred cases of harassment of Ukrainian journalists by the security services of Ukraine as well as Ukrainian ‘activists’.
Therefore, it is only possible to accept such statements from the SSU officials as a silly prank on April 1. Have the Ukrainian media workers become entangled in lies so much so that they have forgotten the basics of the profession, so that the SSU invites our journalists for master classes?
