On November 7, Mikheil Saakashvili announced about his decision quit as a governor of Odessa region. He explained it as Petro Poroshenko’s reluctance to fulfill his promises and support the reforms in Odessa region. Moreover, Saakashvili bluntly accused Poroshenko of supporting criminal clans in the region.
Just in case, Mikheil had decided to speak without a tie, which reflected on the result of his speech: no ties were harmed during his briefing. In other words, by paying attention on these details, we can only hope that his statement was made in all seriousness.
What does this event mean for the political situation in Ukraine? It is a total failure of the Poroshenko’s policy in the Odessa region. Moreover, the man he had nominated for a governor post accused the Ukrainian president of supporting an organized crime. Mikheil Saakashvili is famous odious pro-American politician and he has already showed his devotion to the US masters and his willingness to commit atrocious and crimson crimes, for example, Georgia’s attack on South Ossetia in 2008 in order to please them. This faithful ‘servant of democracy’ was kindly supported financially and politically. Overseas masters found him a warm place in Ukrainian politics after he had escaped from Georgia. Now he is leaving this post.
What is the matter? No one relinquishes power in Ukraine. Especially that Giorgi Lortkipanidze, Mikheil Saakashvili’s right-hand man, has left the post of the Chief of the Main Department of the National Police of Ukraine in Odessa region recently. And now Saakashvili is leaving. The question arises: is it a political suicide or does the Saakashvili’s experience tell that something unpleasant is coming from the president’s team and it is a high time to abandon a sinking ship?
Whatever it was, evidently, only a greatest fear could make such politician as Saakashvili give up this position. Apparently, his further tenure of office as the governor of Odessa region has become too dangerous. Or he has got a signal from Washington to oppose the Poroshenko’s regime. In any case, this move does not bode well for the Ukrainian president’s team
By an old Ukrainian tradition, we will see a few criminal proceedings initiated against the Georgian team of ‘reformers’ in the near future in Ukraine.
