On May 12, the second meeting of the Integration Committee “Russia – Donbass” was held in Donetsk. The event was attended by the Head of the Donetsk People’s Republic Alexander Zakharchenko, the Chairman of the DPR People’s Council Denis Pushilin, the People’s Council’s deputies, public and political figures of the Russian Federation and the Lugansk People’s Republic.
Welcoming remarks were made by the Coordinator of the Committee, the deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Andrey Kozenko.
ʺWe have the second meeting of the Integration Committee in the hero city Donetsk during the celebration of the third anniversary of the establishment of the Donetsk People’s Republic. Today, we are moving to concrete practical work and this is the main goal of today’s meeting.
I wish to note that the representatives of Donbass and Crimea have signed agreements on the establishment of twin-city relations between Sudak and Kiev district of Donetsk, as well as between the Crimean Nizhnegorskiy region and the LPR’s Perevalskiy region,ʺ Andrey Kozenko said.
According to the Head of the Donetsk People’s Republic Alexander Zakharchenko, the main task of the Committee’s work was the reunification of Donbass with Russia.
ʺWe have the only one goal and it is to return to our homeland. We should work towards this goal and the work of the Committee will enable us to achieve it,ʺ Alexander Zakharchenko said.
The Acting Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Lugansk People’s Republic Alexander Drobot stressed the commonality in pursuing and realization of the stated objectives.
We have common ideas, a direction and a common perception of cultural values. I think we are on the right track and Donbass’s character has shown that we will overcome any obstacles in this way,ʺ Alexander Drobot said.
A member of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Sergey Tsekov, in his turn, expressed the desire of the Crimeans to give full support to Donbass as well as the high level of organization of the Integration Committee meeting and celebrations in general.
ʺMore than fifty people have come to the meeting from the Republic of Crimea, indicating that the attitude towards the DPR and the LPR is special. Our desire to help Donbass has been present for all three years.
Comparing the situation in Donetsk and Simferopol, we, Crimeans, have something to learn. I was really impressed by the high level of organization of celebrations and how clean the city was,ʺ Sergey Tsekov said.
Participants continued to work at the Committee’s substantive forums at the end of the plenary meeting of the Integration Committee “Russia – Donbass”.
As part of the work on the “Restoration of economic ties of Donbass and Russia”, the Head of “The Centre of Economic Cooperation of the Republics (Republic of Crimea)” Sergey Ageyev noted that the most recent integration negotiations had resulted in the signing of specific agreements with representatives of the business of the DPR and the LPR.
ʺWe met with representatives of the ministries and business of the Donetsk and the Lugansk People’s Republics in Yalta, we had a conversation with them during a round table and signed several agreements, in particular with the state enterprises “Donetskgormash” and “Silur”. We have come to today’s event with a mechanism agreed at all levels to implement our cooperation. Moreover, we are here today with a large order for rolled metal products and I think that metal will soon be delivered to us by the Donetsk enterprises,ʺ Sergey Ageyev said.
The Minister of Education and Science Larisa Polyakova said at the meeting of “The Humanitarian and Cultural Integration of Donbass and Russia” that the inhabitants of Donbass were adherents of the traditional values which united Donbass with Russia.
ʺThroughout history, the inhabitants of Donbass cherish tradition, nepotism, preserve children’s respect for their parents and the continuity of generations. The fundamental values, including the cult of the Great Victory, were passed from parents to children. And despite 25 years of attempts to impose other values on us, Donbass rebelled against the ideology that was alien to us. We are raised on the lessons of our history.
In terms of integration, it occurred from the very beginning of the establishment of the DPR. We immediately began to re-establish ties with the educational institutions of the Russian Federation. We are now in contact with other friendly states,ʺ Larisa Polyakova said.
During the discussion of the interaction at the ”Best integration practices between the public of Donbass and Russia” forum, the Chairman of the Federation of Trade Unions of Bryansk Region Olga Polyakova said that the processes of integration of the People’s Republics of Donbass with Russia were irreversible.
Interaction processes began even at the level of regional trade union organizations. I wish to point out that we do not need integration for the sake of integration: quantitative indicators must be accompanied by qualitative indicators. The objectives and scope of the agreements we will be signing should be defined and we will work directly together. This is primarily the protection of trade union members and many other issues, including those relating to the legislative framework.,ʺ Olga Polyakova said.
In discussing the foreign policy situation at “The international support of Donbass” forum, Vladimir Bidyovka noted the importance of the participation of representatives of the international community in the activities organized by the Integration Committee “Russia – Donbass”.
ʺIt is essential to provide to the world community information on the real situation of what is happening here in Donbass. As a result, it is a breaking point in which many Western politicians and public figures see and understand the peaceful nature of our young republics,ʺ Vladimir Bidyovka said.
At the end of the event, a final press conference of the Integration Committee was held, at which it was reported that the next scheduled meeting of the integration Committee “Russia-Donbass” would take place in Rostov-on-Don.
