On January 31, a regular meeting of the Contact Group on the peaceful settlement of the conflict in Donbass took place in Minsk. The agenda contained items concerning the restoration of Vodafone services and the exchange of prisoners.
According to the source at the peace talks in Minsk, the plenipotentiary representative of the DNR Denis Pushilin called the lack of communication as an element of the communication blockade deliberately carried out by the Ukrainian side.
ʺAccording to him, Ukraine has been purposefully depriving the Republic of the ability to communicate since last October. The breakdown of Internet trunk lines, which provided Internet services to the Lugansk and Donetsk People’s Republics last autumn, was the first case. And then the breakdown of cables, which served the equipment of the mobile operator, took place already this year.
Taking into account the social consequences of the absence of communication on the territory of the Republic, which had affected, first of all, the least protected categories of population, Denis Pushilin called for a prompt solution to this problem. The representatives of the OSCE SMM in the negotiation process also expressed the need to resolve this situation,ʺ the source reported.
In addition, according to the source, the negotiators focused their attention on the discussion of the exchange of prisoners. Active work on the list of prisoners is underway.
