On October 1, deputies of the DPR People’s Council and heads of Republic ministries participated in passing GTO standards. The team of deputies was headed by the Chairman of the DPR People’s Council Denis Pushilin.
The Speaker of Parliament emphasized the importance of engaging youth in sport by personal example.
ʺToday, we are passing the qualifying standards of the system that was introduced in the Soviet era. The major passing of these standards took place last week, and the most pleasing fact is that this initiative interested the Republic youth.
We decided to get the deputy corps together and also take part to demonstrate our strength and skills. I want to note that engaging Republic citizens and, in particular, youth in sports by personal example,ʺ Denis Pushilin said.
According to the deputy Sergey Sverchkov, a comprehensive sports education of youth is a priority for the leadership of the DPR.
ʺThe deputy corps supported the initiative of GTO standards, read by Denis Pushilin at the last plenary meeting. Youth was more athletic and more active in the days of my youth. Children did not sit at computers at home, the main entertainment was sports: football, basketball and so on. Our goal is to engage children in sports and to prove that sports is not worse that their computer games, but even more interesting and exciting,ʺ Sergey Sverchkov said.
The deputy Miroslav Rudenko voiced a hope that GTO standards will return to the DPR education system.
ʺI think, it is good that GTO standards are supported at the governmental level due to the fact that it is useful not only for youth, but for the representatives of all age groups in general. I hope that the initiative will be supported and implemented in the education system – in schools and universities of the Republic,ʺ the parliamentarian said.
