Alexander Kurenkov: Situation along line of contact remains tense, which demonstrates new truce’s ineffectiveness

On July 17, the participants of the Trilateral Contact Group agreed on another truce in Donbass – absolute and indefinite, which came into force on July 21 at 00:01 hours. However, a ceasefire was not observed by the Ukrainian side for a long time, the territory of the Donetsk and the Lugansk People’s Republic came under fire by the Paramilitary Forces of Ukraine a few hours later.

Currently, a situation along the line of contact remains tense and we can already attests to the ineffectiveness of the new truce. The Ukrainian side once again demonstrated complete incompetence and unwillingness to take any steps to reach a peaceful settlement of the conflict by its actions. And there is no chance that the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky will fulfil his pre-election pledges in this situation.

The Ukrainian leader has not made a single step towards for the residents of the DPR and the LPR during his tenure, and the breakdown of the truce is yet another confirmation that Kiev is not interested in the normalization of the situation. Today, Vladimir Zelensky continues to pursue his predecessor’s course, which was imposed by Western partners. And there is no indication that Ukraine will begin implementing the Minsk agreements.
