Alexey Zhigulin: New puppet leadership of Ukraine will continue course of predecessors in negotiation process on conflict in Donbass
The appointment of Leonid Kuchma as a plenipotentiary representative of Ukraine in the Trilateral Contact Group is a demonstration of a real position of Zelensky towards the Minsk agreements. This was stated by the Deputy of the DPR’s People’s Council Alexey Zhigulin in an interview to the official website of the Donetsk People’s Republic.
ʺThe former President of Ukraine Leonid Kuchma, who was again appointed as a plenipotentiary representative of Kiev in the Trilateral Contact Group, stated the need to intensify the Minsk process and also announced a new truce. So how come the representatives of Kiev have not made real steps towards the settlement of the conflict before?
Leonid Kuchma says that the implementation of Minsk-2 was not possible due to the lack of political will under Poroshenko. But now, seeing the first steps of Zelensky as the President of Ukraine, there is serious doubt regarding the negotiability and concernment of the new leadership of the country in resolving the conflict,ʺ the deputy noted.
Alexey Zhigulin added that the DPR did not expect serious advances in the negotiation process after the appointment of Leonid Kuchma.
ʺI believe that the appointment of the ex-president of Ukraine as a plenipotentiary representative in the negotiation process is not just a display of powerlessness of the new power and its lack of a clear political line, but also a demonstration of a real position of Zelensky towards the Minsk agreements. Not a single paragraph of the Package of Measures has been implemented in four years, and we should now hope for a revitalization of this process. I think that the new puppet leadership of Ukraine will continue the course of predecessors imposed by overseas partners,ʺ the deputy said.
