#Commentary of Denis Pushilin on results of videoconference of working group on security issues
The working group on security discussed today in the videoconference mode the situation around the Donetsk Filtering Station, as well as additional measures to monitor compliance with the ceasefire.
Among the measures that could reduce tension, first of all, we consider the withdrawal of forces and facilities. The main reason for the escalation of tension around the station is the desire of the Ukrainian party to take control of a strategically important life-support facility for use as another instrument of the blockade of the Donbass.
Since January 2017, the AFU has gradually moved their positions closer from a distance of 1.5 km from the station to 70-150 meters. Today, the warring parties can see each other by the naked eye, hence the constant provocations, bombardments and escalation. But the most important thing is that the well-being of half a million recipients of water on both sides of the front line depends on the stable operation of the DFS.
However, neither the importance of providing water to the civilian population nor the threat of an ecological catastrophe in the event of shells hitting a chlorine storage facility have persuaded the Ukrainian side in a to constructive dialogue. The Ukrainian party rejects the idea of disengaging forces and facilities in the station area. Discussion of the situation around the DFS will continue routinely.
