#Commentary of Elena Melnick on number of statements of Nadezhda Savchenko
Clouds are piling up over the deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Nadezhda Savchenko. She made quite a lot of public statements, accusing acting colleagues of involvement in murders during “Maidan”, the loss of Crimea, death of Ukrainians in pockets and, of course, cooperation with Russia.
She expressed he opinion about the relative of the Ukrainian president: “The Prosecutor General Yuri Lutsenko had to become a prosecutor general, so that his crimes against the Ukrainian people would never be investigated”. Lutsenko’s reaction was lightning-fast: “We have solid evidence that Nadezhda Savchenko personally planned and personally gave instructions on how to conduct a terrorist attack in this hall (Verkhovna Rada – Ed.), destroying government and guest lodges with military grenades, bringing down the Verkhovna Rada’s dome and killing those who survived. And that is why I, as the Prosecutor General of Ukraine, am making a submission to the Verkhovna Rada on arraigning on a criminal charge, detention and arrest of Savchenko today”. What can you say, it is the script of some Hollywood action movie.
The Adviser to the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Anton Gerashchenko also joined the accusations of the preparation of coup. Moreover, the Verkhovna Rada excluded Savchenko from the Committee on National Security and Defence.
There had been further interrogation in the SSU, after which Savchenko said that she was ready to publicly repeat the previously said in a lie detector test.
There is one important detail in this situation which will be revealed a little later. The Ukrainian authorities easily call white black and vice versa, when it suits them. But the use of double standards and hypocrisy in Ukraine are embedded in the West. Of course, there are those, who spread monstrous lie, among the Ukrainians, but they were trained by the western workbooks. And another stone will be thrown at the canons of “Western values” soon. Hopefully, sane people remember when highest-ranking guests were constantly talking about Nadezhda Savchenko as a true hero of Ukraine, martyr, who was persecuted for her beliefs and was “illegally” detained in the Russian Federation, in the PACE, in all leading human rights organizations and at all sorts of round tables. Do you remember that? In addition, Poroshenko personally awarded her with a title “Hero of Ukraine”.
There are high chances that Nadezhda Savchenko will not be at liberty with such statements and such power (Englishmen will be better able to explain this phrase). Will the action #FreeSavchenko be revived from the ashes? Would the possible arrest of Savchenko be the basis of various diplomatic notes and other documents? Will it be supported in the West?
