The modern war is waged not only at the front with the help of weapons. The main battle in the Donbass is for the minds and hearts of people. And while the DPR consistently pursues a humanitarian programme for residents of the Donbass territories temporarily controlled by Ukraine, within which our countrymen are provided with free medical care, quotas for free higher and secondary specialized education, financial and legal support is provided, the Ukrainian authorities are engaged in completely different things.
On the part of Ukraine, there is an imitation of aid, loud statements about improving the economy and injecting money from the United States. So, for example, the US Agency for International Development (USAID) announced the allocation of $125 million to restore the economy of the Donbass. The agency reports that the money will be spent on “further stabilization and consolidation of Ukrainian communities in the region, increasing the stability of the local economy and accelerating its development.” It is becoming clear what is essentially behind these words.
A series of public meetings aimed at discussing medical reform was announced to be held in Mariupol. In other words, residents of Ukraine’s temporarily controlled territory of Donbass will be told about a remarkable medical reform and other ‘deeds’ of the Ukrainian authorities. This is what $125 million were allocated for. It is lectures and conversations with the active part of the population that in the end, according to foreign specialists from USAID, should raise the economy of the destroyed Donbass. By the way, earlier Ukrainian experts estimated the restoration of the economy of Donbass at $50 billion, so it’s better not to wait for the special effect from the American handouts.
And while the American agency gives lectures, the DPR is really engaged in economic development and restoring infrastructure. Just one example: during the Ukrainian governing, hundreds of thousands of people in Makeyevka received water by the hour. Now the Makeyevka people can enjoy water all day long. The DPR authorities in a difficult time managed something that Ukraine could not cope with – to establish water supply.
Meanwhile, in Mariupol and Slavyansk, whole districts remain without water supply. In addition, the AFU continues to shell the Donetsk Filtering Station, which provides clean water to a considerable number of settlements, including in the Donbass territory temporarily controlled by the Kiev authorities. According to the representation of the DPR in the JCCC, on May 17, because of mortar shelling by the AFU, the DFS was de-energized and stopped. That’s how the Ukrainian government cares about the inhabitants of the Donbass – it bombs them and deprives of water.
Any propaganda that is not backed by real deeds, sooner or later turns against its author. Apparently, the Ukrainian authorities and their owners from the US have forgotten about this.
