#Commentary of Sergey Zavdoveyev on Poroshenko’s desire to involve NATO in issue of deployment of “blue helmets” in Donbass
The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko described a new idee fixe during a joint briefing with the NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg in Brussels.
According to the Ukrainian leader, the direct involvement of NATO in the UN peacekeeping mission will help to resolve the conflict in Donbass once and for all. Furthermore, Kiev also counts on the support of the North Atlantic Alliance in regaining control over borders with Russia in the south of the country.
Such statements of the Ukrainian president once again confirm that Kiev has chosen a path of confrontation of relations not only with Donbass, but also with Russia.
We repeatedly stated that the involvement of the peacekeeping contingent of NATO or any other armed mission will lead to fatal consequences and a war will be inevitable. The intervention of a third party will not help the negotiation process.
The only right way to achieve peaceful settlement is a direct dialog of Kiev with the Republics of Donbass.
