#Commentary of Vladimir Chekun on state support of sportsmen, who made great achievements in their professional activity

The future of the Donetsk People’s Republic, as well as the future of any modern state, is determined to a considerable extent by the physical and spiritual health of its citizens.

Therefore, concern for the development of physical culture and sport is the most important component of a state social policy, which is designed to ensure that the needs and concerns of the citizens of the Republic in a designated area are met.

Currently, physical and recreational and sports activities organically combine the efforts of a state, its governmental, public and private organizations, institutions and social institutions in many foreign countries.

The front-line experience of the Russian Federation shows that the most promising and effective mechanism for ensuring the financing of sport is public-private partnership.

However, since a possibility of financing by non-profit charitable organizations in the Donetsk People’s Republic is not regulated at the legislative level, professional sport can only exist through support by the state.

In order to provide adequate support to the citizens who showed outstanding achievements in sports and to stimulate the development of recreational and sports activities in the Donetsk People’s Republic, the DPR’s People’s Council’s Committee on Youth, Physical Culture, Sports and Tourism is developing a draft law, which provides appropriate payments to the athletes and coaches of the combined teams of the USSR, Ukraine, CIS Republics, as well as the athletes and coaches of the teams of the Donetsk People’s Republic, which won top places at the Olympic, Deaflympic, Paralympic and World games in non-Olympic sports.
