#Commentary of Vladislav Berdichevsky on entry into force of Ukrainian law on Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Partnership between Ukraine and Russian Federation
Ukraine and Russia will have no fraternal and even friendly relations starting from April 1, 2019. This all happened due to the fault of the current Ukrainian power, which fulfils American political interests, and which was foreseeable.
Nobody can accurately predict further events, answer questions, which are critically important for Ukraine now. What will happen to centuries-old ties, common faith, common language and intergenerational kin relations? What will happen to political and economic relations, unresolved border issues and migrations between the states?
It is clear that will Ukraine not be able to find a replacement for Russia as an economic partner. The large-scale enterprises of the Ukrainian economy, due to which it was the most powerful republic in the USSR, have long become obsolete and worn-out, the association with the EU was a simulacrum – European markets could not compensate for the loss of markets in Russia.
In summary, I have strong doubts about the Ukrainian political figures’ capability to adequately resolve this stalemate situation.
Vladimir Berdichevsky, the Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Policy, International Relations, Information Policy and Technology.
