On September 27, the unveiling of the monument to the prisoners of Nazi concentration camps, which functioned during the Great Patriotic War, took place in Donetsk. The event was attended by the Chairman of the DPR People’s Council Denis Pushilin.
According to the Speaker of Parliament, it is very important to honor the history to prevent a recurrence of the tragic events of the Great Patriotic War.
ʺThe war maims, kills, shatters peace and quiet for many years and decades even after the one is over. People were stalked by nightmares for a long time, after the end of the World War II, and especially those who knew about horrors of the concentration camps firsthand, those who were subjected to tortures, humiliation and inhuman conditions. It is an appalling tragedy and, despite the fact that there is an incalculable number of victims, we have to remember, we have to do everything possible that this does not happen again,ʺ Denis Pushilin said.
The chairman of the Donetsk republican organization of ex-inmates – victims of Nazi persecution Alla Stepanova emphasized the importance of the event.
ʺI have the satisfaction of the fact that, finally, there is a monument on this burial mound, which is a mass grave, that will remind everyone about the inhuman crime. Prisoners of concentration camps are not only my pain for life, but everyone’s who experienced horrors of life in the death camps,ʺ Alla Stepanova said.
