Denis Pushilin comments on UN’s interruption of food supplies in DPR
Pensions, salaries and social benefits, as well as humanitarian assistance, continue to be provided in the DPR by the Russian Federation, therefore the stoppage of food supplies by the UN is not critical. It was stated by the Chairman of the DPR People’s Council Denis Pushilin in the interview to the information and analytical publication “Ukraine”.
Earlier, the representative of the United Nations’ World Food Programme in Ukraine Neal Walker informed Reuters that it had stopped providing food aid to Donbass due to a lack of funding. According to him, the United Nations requested $200 million to assist Donbas in 2016, but only 30% of that amount was allocated.
ʺThe figures mentioned by Neal Walker are not quite clear for me. The fact is that the humanitarian situation in Donbass was complex in 2014 and at the beginning of 2015. At that time, the most significant assistance was provided by the Russian Federation – the famous white KamAz trucks. Now the situation is different. At least in terms of food,ʺ Denis Pushilin said.
According to the Speaker of the DPR Parliament, the delivery of humanitarian aid from the Russian Federation to Donbass is still under way.
ʺIt is less than it used to be. But it is still available, depending on the need. Salaries, pensions and social benefits are now paid because of the introduction of external administration in nationalized enterprises. Therefore, the need for food supplies is now seriously reduced,ʺ Denis Pushilin emphasized.
