Denis Pushilin: Issue of introducing ‘school truce’ to be discussed in Minsk

Representatives of the Donetsk People’s Republic at the upcoming meeting of the Contact Group in Minsk intend to initiate the introduction of a “school truce” in the Donbass on the eve of the new academic year. This was announced today, on August 21, by the Chairman of the DPR People’s Council, the Permanent Representative of the DPR to the talks of the Contact Group in Minsk, Denis Pushilin, RIA Novosti reports.

The Contact Group meeting on the settlement of the situation in the Donbass will be held in Minsk on August 22. Subgroups on humanitarian, political issues and security will hold two-day talks, which will begin on Tuesday.

“The upcoming meeting in Minsk will involve the discussion of the issue of renewing the parties’ obligations to observe truce on the eve of the new academic year. The link to significant events for the introduction of a new armistice has certain logic,” Denis Pushilin said.

He recalled that during the conflict in the Donbass, more than 20 attempts were made to stop bombardment, but none of them led to a complete ceasefire in the area.

“But we can certainty say that such agreements allow to reduce the level of escalation. I hope our initiative will resonate with the Ukrainian side. For our part, we will do our utmost to make the children of the Donbass able to study in a calm, peaceful environment,” the DPR envoy said.

According to Denis Pushilin, the issue of ceasefire by the beginning of the academic year will be discussed at the meeting of the security subgroup on Tuesday.
