Denis Pushilin’s statement on providing security guarantees to OSCE SMM representatives in DPR south
Despite the fact that earlier the OSCE SMM has submitted a request to facilitate safe work and access to the settlements of Kominternovo and Sakhanka to communicate with civilians who live near the contact line, today Alexander Hug independently changed the route and tried to travel to Novoazovsk and Sedovo accompanied by the OSCE SMM patrols.
Yesterday I personally met with Alexander Hug, and we discussed, among other things, the issues of visiting the south of the Republic. Alexander was warned about the difficult situation in these areas. It is known that these two settlements are the only resort areas by the sea in the Republic. The influx of people is enormous. The possibilities for carrying out sabotage and other provocations are enormous too.
That is why we cannot guarantee security for the Mission’s representatives in these areas, since we do not exclude such sabotage acts that could lead to tragic consequences. In those areas where security on our part can be guaranteed, the OSCE SMM is always allowed.
In this regard, the DPR MIA forces regularly conduct anti-diversionary activities in these settlements and their environs. Therefore, Alexander Hug was offered a new safe route.
At the same time, I note that we are disappointed that Alexander Hug has changed his mind to visit the settlements of Kominternovo and Sakhanka located directly on the contact line and to communicate with civilians who regularly suffer from shelling by the AFU.
