Denis Pushilin: Today we have opportunity to preserve and multiply legacy of Prince Vladimir and our ancestors

On July 28, the Day of celebration of the 1030th anniversary of the Christianization of Rus’, a divine service was held in St. Vladimir’s Church of the city of Donetsk in honour of St. Prince Vladimir, Equal-to-the-Apostles. DPR Head Alexander Zakharchenko, Chairman of the People’s Council Denis Pushilin, Deputy Chairman of the People’s Council Olga Makeyeva, and deputies Alla Barkhatnova, Sergey Makeyev, Alexander Malkov, Euvgeny Orlov, Sergey Chuchin, as well as representatives of the administration of the Kuibyshevsky district of Donetsk, attended the service.

Before the monument to the Holy Equal-to-the-Apostles Prince Vladimir, a prayer service was held, after which the speaker of the parliament congratulated the citizens of the Republic on the holiday.

“Thanks to the challenging choice of Saint Prince Vladimir, our ancestors took the path of development and achieved much. Today we have the opportunity to preserve and multiply their heritage. It is difficult to overestimate the significance of today’s holiday for the Russian land, for the Russian state. I want to congratulate all our citizens on the 1030th anniversary of the Christianization of Rus’. I wish you all the best, but most importantly – peaceful skies over your head,” Denis Pushilin said.

He also commented on the attempts to create a single autocephalous Ukrainian church on the basis of the schismatic Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Kiev Patriarchate.

“History shows us that confrontations on religious grounds had more serious consequences than military conflicts that arose for other reasons. Therefore, we are deeply concerned about the Ukrainian authorities’ policy towards Orthodox Ukraine, in particular, interference in the internal church life and the attempt of creating a single autocephalous Ukrainian Orthodox church by the state. We with the Head of the Republic have already stressed that the world community should by any means prevent a conflict,” the Chairman of the People’s Council said.

At that, according to Denis Pushilin, against the backdrop of the current situation, special concerns and regrets are caused by the actions of the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, who supports the political ambitions of Kiev.

The Day of the Christianization of Rus’ is celebrated annually on July 28 on the feast day of St. Vladimir the Equal-to-the-Apostles, who baptized Rus in 988. We recall that on April 7, 2018, on the square in front of the St. Vladimir Church in Donetsk, a monument to the christianizer of Rus’, presented by residents of the Russian Federation, who are Donbass native, was installed.
