Deputy Valery Skorokhodov comments on information about Alexander Hug’s plans to quit as Deputy Head of OSCE SMM

After the retirement of the Deputy Head of the OSCE SMM Alexander Hug, the situation concerning the negotiation process in Minsk, as well as the implementation of the Package of Measures, will remain unchanged. This view was shared by the DPR People’s Council deputy Valery Skorokhodov in an interview to the Donetsk News Agency.

ʺUndoubtedly, the OSCE SMM performed a critically important function – the recording of cease-fire violations – and continues to do so. But objective monitoring is only one item of the Package of Measures, which is necessary for the implementation of the Minsk agreements. Unfortunately, neither the OSCE nor guarantor countries nor the United States force Ukraine to perform its part of obligations. Not because they cannot, but because they do not want to.

The first violin in Ukraine is played by the US, and they are interested not in the implementation of the Minsk agreements, but in the permanent conflict in order to find reasons to accuse not the DPR and LPR, but the Russian Federation. Because a straightforward confrontation and marginal aggression will destroy Ukraine and there is a clear understanding of this there.

Only time will tell whether a new person, who will be appointed to the post of Alexander Hug, will keep on working like this, visiting sites on both sides of the line of contact and fixing violations objectively. But there will not be fundamental changes, because the OSCE SMM does not play a crucial role in the settlement of the conflict in Donbass. The mission is needed, as well as the Minsk platform, and the years of the Ukrainian aggression have shown that there would many more victims without these instruments,ʺ Valery Skorokhodov said.
