DPR delegation partakes in rally dedicated to 366th anniversary of Pereyaslav Council

On January 18, in the city of Simferopol, the Republic of Crimea, a solemn meeting and laying flowers at the monument to Bogdan Khmelnitsky on the occasion of the 366th anniversary of the Pereyaslav Council took place.

The DPR and LPR delegations, member of the Council of the Federation of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, chairman of the Russian Сommunity of Crimea Sergey Tsekov, deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Andrey Kozenko participated in the event.

Sergey Tsekov thanked DPR and LPR inhabitants for their courage and devotion to the ideals of the Russian world.

“It’s not the first year that we celebrate this event. We first celebrated the day of the unification of Russia twenty years ago on the initiative of the Russian Community of Crimea. We are forever with Russia, and today with us are the great sons of our Fatherland, who are at the forefront of the battle for the ideals of the Russian world – representatives of the DPR and LPR,” the chairman of the Russian Community of Crimea said.

In turn, Andrey Kozenko reminded the participants about the events of 2014.

“We are now at the Bogdan Khmelnitsky monument. The exact same monument exists in the hero-city of Donetsk, and exactly the same monument exists in the hero-city of Kiev. In 2014, we showed the whole world that the Russian world is united. We all rallied to our homeland, historical truth, our faith and justice’s defence,” the State Duma deputy said.

Addressing the event participants, DPR People’s Council Chairman Vladimir Bidyovka emphasized that one would be able to avoid repeating the mistakes of the past if one had known the history of their Homeland.

“Dear Crimeans! Friends! On behalf of all inhabitants of the Donetsk People’s Republic, please accept my sincere congratulations on the 366th anniversary of the Pereyaslav Council – an event that became a symbol of brotherhood and spiritual unity.

The Pereyaslav Council and the events following it showed that when the Russian people are one, it’s the Russian world that is one. There is not a single enemy that can defeat us, no goals and objectives that we are unable to achieve. This event became a symbol of faith, hope and brotherhood, and I am glad that today we are here, together, remembering this lesson of history, feeling the brotherly support of each other,” the Speaker of Parliament said.

Vladimir Bidyovka thanked the officials of the Republic of Crimea for a reverent attitude to the memory of the first DPR Head.

“We are sincerely grateful for the support and understanding; and I want to say a separate thank you for keeping the memory of the exploits of our national heroes – the first Head of the Donetsk People’s Republic, Alexander Vladimirovich Zakharchenko, whose name now bears a street in the capital of Simferopol. For us, this is a significant event that really does say a lot. The entire Donetsk People’s Republic is grateful to you!” the Chairman of the People’s Council said.

In a comment for the People’s Council press service, MP Vladimir Pakreyev spoke about the significance of the DPR delegation’s presence at events marking the anniversary of the Pereyaslav Council.

“Participation in the celebrations of the Pereyaslav Council’s anniversary has become a good and proper tradition. On this day, we recall an important historical event when the long-awaited reunion of the triune Russian people finally happened, the western and southern branches of which had previously been under the yoke of forces hostile to Russia. Russian people unanimously supported the unification based on a common culture, a common – Orthodox – faith and a common language.

We remember and are proud of their choice.

The referendum befell on our generation, which marked the beginning of a new milestone in the history of the Russian world, in the history of the struggle for the spiritual and cultural unity of the Russian people. Inextricable religious and national ties only confirmed that the Russian state is a reliable ally; this is our Fatherland, and our common home.

Not only did the Pereyaslav Council become the final act uniting the three branches of the Russian people, but also led to the legal return to Russia of the originally Russian lands that were unjustly torn away from it.

Three centuries later, Russia remains the same state faithful to its principles, ready to support and protect the Russian people. And the unity of the Russian people is invariably a force capable of resisting any enemies, including those working in the interests of Western ‘sponsors’ who are so zealously striving to distort and rewrite our history and undermine the foundations of our identity,” the parliamentarian said.
