DPR delegation participates in rally dedicated to 363rd anniversary of Pereyaslav Council
On January 18, the capital of the Republic of Crimea in Simferopol held a solemn meeting and laying flowers at the monument to Bogdan Khmelnitsky on the occasion of the 363rd anniversary of the Pereyaslav Council.
The event was attended by delegations from the DPR and the LPR, Chairman of the State Council of the Republic of Crimea Vladimir Konstantinov, deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Andrey Kozenko.
The DPR Head Alexander Zakharchenko in his speech stressed that the true strength of any nation is in its unity.
“Exactly 363 years ago, our ancestors gathered and said their firm “no,” their firm “enough.” Enough changing of our history, changing of our faith, mocking our mothers and wives, and making us forget that we are Russians! Our ancestors 363 years ago managed to change everything and prove that the power is in unity,” the DPR Head said.
The DPR People’s Council Chairman Denis Pushilin noted that only knowing and honouring the one’s history, you can avoid a repetition of past mistakes.
“Dear friends, it’s been 363 years, and we still need to solve the current problems on the example of the history, and it is because the relevant lessons have not been learned from the past events. Now we understand that, if people would be asked in 2014 what they want, what common people want, then we would see a completely different course of events, but that power, which is now in Kiev, has not given the chance to solve everything peacefully, and we still live in a civil war,” the Speaker of the DPR parliament said.
According to the Chairman of the State Council of the Republic of Crimea Vladimir Konstantinov, the Pereyaslav Council is one of the most important historical events that could unite the Slavs and rebuff attempts of wiping out the Russian world.
“The Pereyaslav Council made an important page in the history of our great country, this event changed all Slavic peoples. At that time, due to the aggression and attacks the connection between the Slavs was broken, the future became hazy, spirituality has been lost, but our ancestors were able to restore unity by means of the Pereyaslav Council. Our own generation had to face the referendum, which marked the beginning of a new milestone of the Russian world’s unity,” Vladimir Konstantinov said.
Russian State Duma deputy Andrey Kozenko emphasized the importance of Bogdan Khmelnytsky’s personality in Russian history.
“Today, we are near the monument to Bogdan Khmelnitsky – the man who laid the foundation for the unification of Russian lands. Today I see here a lot of people, who for decades had been coming to this square and demanding a speedy, immediate reunification of the Crimea with our historical homeland, with Russia,” Andrey Kozenko concluded.
During the event the scene of Khmelnitsky appealing to the Cossacks was staged. After the official part of the event, participants adopted a resolution and laid flowers to the monument to Bogdan Khmelnytsky.
