DPR representatives in Contact Group calls on Ukrainian side to release all illegally detained people

On October 27, a regular meeting of the Contact Group on the peaceful settlement of the conflict in Donbass was held in Minsk. The agenda included the exchange of prisoners, the observance of cease-fire, in particular, around critical civilian infrastructure as well as the withdrawal of proscribed weapons and the separation of forces and means.

According to the source at the peace negotiations in Minsk, the issue of the release of all illegally detained people in the territory of Ukraine remains to be a key issue for the representatives of the Donetsk People’s Republic.

ʺUnfortunately, the Ukrainian side continues to split the lists of all prisoners into the categories that are subject and not subject for the exchange. Despite all the appeals made by the representatives of the Republics, the Ukrainian negotiators continue to prolong the exchange of prisoners, as prescribed by the Package of Measures for the implementation of the Minsk agreements.

Special attention was given by the negotiators to the violation of basic human rights in relation to prisoners and the use of illegal methods of interrogation of detainees, lack of medical care and inadequate conditions of detention,ʺ the source said.
