Elena Shishkina: We have doubts concerning how willing Zelensky is to discuss settlement of conflict

Deputy of the DPR’s People’s Council Elena Shishkina commented in an interview to the Donetsk News Agency on a statement made by the Head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine about Zelensky’s readiness for a meeting in the Normandy format.

ʺA prisoner exchange had a positive impact on the possibility of holding a Normandy Four meeting. The Presidents of Russia and France Vladimir Putin and Emmanuel Macron had a telephone conversation, where they gave a positive assessment of the prisoner exchange, which took place on September 7. Vladimir Putin noted the desirability of preparing an agenda for the meeting in the Normandy format. However, we have doubts concerning how willing Zelensky is to discuss the settlement of the conflict in Donbass,ʺ the deputy said.

Elena Shishkina noted that shelling by the Paramilitary Groups of Ukraine continued after the prisoner exchange, human casualties were registered among civilians.

ʺZelensky’s position on the amnesty of residents of the DPR and the LPR, who stood up for their rights with weapons at hand, is unclear. The Leader of the “Servant of the People” faction Razumkov indicated earlier that such an amnesty was impossible. And it is a prerequisite to fulfilling the Minsk agreements. In addition, Zelensky stated that he would not engage in a direct dialogue with representatives of the People’s Republics of Donbass. If the incumbent president has not changed his position, then the question arises, how really ready he is for such serious negotiations as a meeting in the Normandy format,ʺ the deputy underlined.
