Maxim Parshin: Prohibiting entry into Kiev-controlled territory to Metropolitan Hilarion – step towards inciting religious hatred in country
Abolition of Metropolitan of Donetsk and Mariupol Hilarion’s pass for getting through the demarcation line by the Security Service of Ukraine was commented to the Donetsk News Agency by deputy of the DPR People’s Council, chairman of the Committee for the Development of Civil Society, Issues of Public and Religious Associations Maxim Parshin.
“The ban on entry into the territory controlled by Kiev to the ruling eparch of the Donetsk-Mariupol Diocese of the UOC, Metropolitan Hilarion, is another conscious step of the Ukrainian government to exacerbate social tension in Ukraine, inciting religious hatred and, in fact, to increase the speed of the most genuine persecution of Orthodox church,” the parliamentarian noted.
Maxim Parshin added that this situation looked even more absurd, given the “decommunization” carried out in Ukraine. In essence, Poroshenko, in the fight against the church, repeats the path of the Soviet government, which at its time tried to create an alternative structure to the Russian Orthodox Church, namely the Renovationist Church.
“The fact that the entry ban violates the civil rights of Metropolitan Hilarion himself, in particular the right to freedom of movement, which is guaranteed by article 33 of the Constitution of Ukraine, does not bother anyone at all. And this is truly scary and revealing when a violation of the fundamental law and civil rights of a person becomes a trifle, which is lost against the general background of the madness and lawlessness of the Ukrainian authorities,” the deputy stressed.
We shall add that on December 9, 2018, the press service of the Donetsk Diocese of the UOC (MP) reported that on December 9, His Eminence Hilarion, Metropolitan of Donetsk and Mariupol, was forbidden to cross the line of demarcation at the Novotroitskoye checkpoint, when he was travelling to the Nikolo-Vasilievsky Monastery for performing traditional worship on the day of remembrance of the icon of the Mother of God “The Sign”.
