Open violation of Minsk agreements: Alexey Zhigulin on Avakov’s plan for forceful takeover of Donbass
Kiev’s plans regarding forceful takeover of the Donbass Republics have been created for the psychological impact on the Ukrainian security forces, and not for a full-scale military invasion, deputy of the DPR People’s Council, Chairman of the Committee for Criminal and Administrative Law Alexey Zhigulin shared his opinion with RIA Novosti.
Earlier, in the United States, Ukraine’s Interior Minister Arsen Avakov presented his plan for the return of the Donbass under Kiev’s control. According to the plan, it is proposed to gradually introduce UN peacekeepers to the Donbass, and start with a peculiar city or district. After that, work should be carried out on the mine clearance of territories and the solution of environmental problems, the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine believes.
“The regular participation of Ukrainian officials in round tables together with members of the US parliament and the State Department, during which intervention plans of forced seizure of the DPR and LPR are presented, are more populist in nature. The voiced proposals are aimed at raising the spirits in the Ukrainian army and law enforcement agencies, and not on the implementation of a full-scale military invasion. A tremendous disappointment reigns in the ranks of the armed formations of Ukraine,” Alexey Zhigulin believes.
According to him, there are many contradictions in such plans, including open violation of the Minsk agreements.
“In a situation where Russia is being constantly accused of military presence in the territory of the Donbass republics, it turns out that voicing plans for an invasion means a direct military conflict with the Russian army. But in the case of the Crimea, this is not only not happening, but is not even being said out loud. Moreover, the first step for the implementation of Avakov’s plan should be Ukraine’s withdrawal from the negotiations in Minsk, since it is an open violation of all the security points of the Package of Measures for the implementation of the Minsk agreements,” Alexey Zhigulin underlined.
He didn’t rule out that “it’s quite likely that the participants of such meetings just like to meet and discuss completely different topics of a money-focused nature”.
