Parliamentarians participate in event dedicated to launching Year of Russian Language in Donetsk People’s Republic

On February 20, the opening ceremony of the Year of the Russian Language in the Donetsk People’s Republic was held in the capital’s Donbass Opera. The event was attended by the Head of the DPR, Denis Pushilin, the Chairman of the DPR People’s Council, Vladimir Bidyovka, deputies of the People’s Council, heads of ministries and departments, residents of the Republic, as well as guests from the Russian Federation.

DPR Head Denis Pushilin noted that at the moment the Ukrainian party is trying hard to turn the language into another tool of war.

“Today, unfortunately, we are forced to observe a general decline in language culture. Our foes are trying to turn the language into one of the most powerful tools of ideological influence, and, first of all, young people are the target.

Therefore, in the spring of 2014, when they thwarted our values, the most important part of which is language, the Donbass rebelled,” Denis Pushilin said.

According to the DPR Head, today’s start will be the beginning of large-scale rallies, events and projects within the framework of the Year of the Russian Language.

“This year marks the fifth anniversary of the Russian spring in the Donbass, and it is very symbolic that we declared 2019 the Year of the Russian Language. I am assured everyone understands how far this choice is from the formality, how important it is for us.

On the eve of the International Mother Language Day, which is celebrated tomorrow, on February 21, we are launching a cycle of events within the framework of the Year of the Russian Language in the Donetsk People’s Republic,” the Head of State emphasized.

Denis Pushilin expressed the hope that the Year of the Russian Language would contribute to the spiritual enrichment of the people of the Republic.

“I wish all of us that this year will enrich us spiritually, that we together pass it with a conscious understanding of what treasury we own. A happy interesting journey!” the Head of the Republic said.

According to the official website of the DPR Head, during the event, pieces of work of Russian classics performed by instrumentalists of the Donetsk State Academic Music and Drama Theatre named after M. M. Brovun and the Donetsk State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre named after A.B. Solovyanenko sounded from the stage of the Donbass Opera to the accompaniment of the S. S. Prokofiev Symphony Orchestra.
