Representatives of Republic’s authorities attend opening of “Scene on Sadovyi Avenue” by Donetsk Music and Drama Theatre
On December 14, a solemn opening of “Scene on the Sadovyi Avenue” by the Donetsk State Academic Music and Drama Theatre named after M. M. Brovun took place in the capital of the Republic. The event was attended by the Head of the DPR Denis Pushilin, Chairman of the People’s Council Vladimir Bidyovka, deputies of the People’s Council, DPR’s Minister of Culture Mikhail Zheltyakov, representatives of Republican ministries and departments.
Denis Pushilin addressed those present with a welcoming speech, noting that, despite all the complexities of the war and blockade, art in the Donetsk People’s Republic continued to develop and please its residents.
ʺHistorical justice is being restored, because this is one of our oldest buildings. And it is really important for all of us. This is also important in the sense that there are long lines in theatres and not everyone can get there. And this additional scene is an opportunity to feel cultural greatness. I congratulate you all! Donbass is developing and it will continue to do so in the future!ʺ the head of the state emphasized.
Vladimir Bidyovka joined the extended congratulations.
ʺDear friends, I congratulate you on this event! The opening of “Scene of the Sadovyi Avenue” is truly an event of national significance. Not only employees of the theatre were waiting for this day, but also all fans of dramatic art.
The workers of the Donetsk Music and Drama Theatre have created theatrical atmosphere with their own hands. They have put in their effort and soul in order to let historical justice serve again.
And, of course, we understand that the Donetsk State Academic Music and Drama Theatre named after M. M. Brovun is a theater that deservedly enjoys people’s love today. I am sure that the Music and Drama Theatre will move to the higher levels from this day forward and this scene will please our residents with new performances.
And, of course, we, on the part of the People’s Council, are ready to support the dramatic art in the Republic. Thus, deputies adopted a law “On theatres and theatrical activity”, which had been developed by the Committee on Education, Science and Culture headed by Natalia Volkova, through which it will be possible to buy tickets in digital form.
I would like to congratulate you again and wish you to conquer new heights and, of course, that people’s love you receive will only grow,ʺ the parliamentary speaker said.
The Chairman of the Government Alexander Ananchenko also congratulated the theatre staff.
At the end of an official part of the event, a performance based on “Three jokes” by A. P. Chekhov was staged for the guests of the event.
In addition, the theatre staff prepared theatrical tours of the building before the opening ceremony. The actors of the theater gave a historical overview of the building located at 62 Kobozeva Street.
It should be added that “Scene on the Sadovyi Avenue” is located within a historical building constructed by merchants and brothers Tudorovsky in the 19th century and was known as the Tudorovski Theatre until 1918. It was the first theatre in Donetsk. In the 20s of the last century, the theatre was transformed into the Engels’ House of Culture. For a hundred years, the building had been moving from one administrative subordination to another. It survived the Great Patriotic War and the years of occupation.
In 2019, the DPR’s Government made a decision to transfer the building under the management of the Music and Drama Theatre named after M. M. Brovun to preserve the cultural heritage object and recover historical belonging of the theatre, as well as to revive the theatre within its walls.
