Republic’s officials participate in opening ceremony of XIII International Festival in Crimea

On June 4, the grand opening of the XIII International Festival “The Great Russian Word” took place in the city of Yalta. The event was visited by the official delegation of the DPR, which was headed by the Head of the DPR, Denis Pushilin. The delegation involved Chairman of the DPR People’s Council Vladimir Bidyovka, People’s Council deputy Valery Skorokhodov, and Minister of Culture Mikhail Zheltyakov.

The Chairman of the Council of the Federation of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, Valentina Matviyenko, took part in the opening ceremony of the festival. The event was also attended by members of the Federation Council, deputies of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, members of the Russian Government, public and political figures.

In her speech, Valentina Matviyenko thanked the participants for the careful attitude to Russia’s cultural heritage.

“Today, in this hall, truly caring people have gathered. Those who wholeheartedly love Russian literature and culture, who devoted their lives to the study, preservation and promotion of the Russian language. Thank you all so much for this!

I am very glad to see our dear compatriots and like-minded people from more than 50 countries around the world who come here to see with their own eyes how the Russian Crimea is flourishing, how our newfound unity is getting stronger. Together we are one big tight-knit family of the Russian world, which cannot be found on the map, but which lives in the hearts of millions of people in various parts of the world,” Valentina Matviyenko said.

For his part, the Head of the Republic of Crimea, Sergey Aksyonov, added that the preservation of traditions is the key to success on the path of compatriots’ reunification.

“Russian people are bound by our Russian language and the Orthodox faith. This is what unites us. And today, unfortunately, people are still dying for these values, as is the case in the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics… Denis Vladimirovich Pushilin, the Head of the Donetsk People’s Republic, is here today. It’s hard for our friends and brothers, but they don’t give up, because they are really fighting for their ideology,” Sergey Aksyonov said.

In turn, Denis Pushilin, when communicating with media representatives, stressed that the people of the Donbass appreciate and respect the Russian language.

“From 2015 we do not miss and we cannot miss the Great Russian Word festival. We know absolutely for sure what the Russian word, Russian culture, and Russian language mean for us. This is what allowed us to withstand since 2014. This is what we rely on. This is what really valuable for us,” the Head of the Donetsk People’s Republic said.

Chairman of the People’s Council Vladimir Bidyovka commented on the festival to the parliament’s press service.

“It is vital in the modern world to pay attention to our culture, to develop and strengthen its authority in the international arena in every possible way. Language is the basis of our society, the foundation that unites the entire Russian world, even outside the historical Homeland. And today, supporting our native language, we are strengthening our culture, developing its authority at the international level.

I’d like to note that in the Donetsk People’s Republic, 2019 is declared the Year of the Russian language, therefore it is especially important for us to be here today. We feel the inextricable link between the Donetsk People’s Republic and the Republic of Crimea, because we are all children of one big Motherland,” Vladimir Bidyovka noted.
