Solemn meeting dedicated to City Day takes place in Donetsk

On August 23, the Centre for Slavic Culture hosted a solemn meeting dedicated to the celebration of the 150th anniversary of the founding of Donetsk City. The event was attended by DPR Head Denis Pushilin, Chairman of the People’s Council Vladimir Bidyovka, People’s Council deputies, representatives of ministries and departments, employees of City and District Councils.

Speaking to the participants of the event, the Head of the Republic thanked the employees of the City and District Councils for their active civic stance.

“Dear fellow countrymen! I congratulate you on the 150th jubilee birthday of our beautiful and persistent capital of the Donetsk People’s Republic! We celebrate this holiday with special pride. Donetsk is a hero city, a working city, a winning city! Over a century and a half, it experienced a lot. We know what a challenge the past five years have been for the city, for all of us. But we survived, we did not break but showed a real Donetsk character.

Dear people of Donetsk! Today, I want to say thank you for not leaving your hometown at the most difficult time. Your courage, your heroism, shown during the defence of the Homeland, and daily conscientious work for the good and prosperity of your beloved city – this is an example of attitude to your land, to our common home.

Thanks to you, Donetsk, despite all the difficulties, remains a “city of a million roses”; cozy, beautiful and welcoming. Donetsk lives and develops thanks to you!

We still have a lot of work ahead, but I am convinced that by joint efforts we will achieve everything that we have outlined. May our city live in peace, prosper, make everyone happy with its landscapes and sights, good people and pleasant events. Happy holiday!” Denis said Pushilin.

Chairman of the People’s Council Vladimir Bidyovka joined the congratulations.

“Please accept my most sincere congratulations on the 150th anniversary of the founding of the city of Donetsk, the capital of the Donetsk People’s Republic.

Donetsk is a hero city, a city of miner’s fame, so it is symbolic that the day of the city coincides with Miner’s Day. The labour exploits of the Donetsk miners are known far beyond its borders: the outstanding achievements of Alexey Stakhanov, the restoration of mines after the Great Patriotic War by Donetsk women, and many other accomplishments have gone down in world history forever.

Even today the city is famous for its strength, beauty and hard work. The hospitality of the capital of the Republic, the cleanliness of the streets and the sea of flowers in parks and squares have become the hallmark of our state – for more than half a century Donetsk has been known worldwide as a city of a million roses. Steadily experiencing all difficulties, the capital of the Donetsk People’s Republic embodies a symbol of courage and tireless struggle for truth and justice.

I am sure that in the future Donetsk will become even more beautiful and delight residents and guests of the capital of the Republic with its splendour.

On Donetsk City Day, I wish you new successes in work, health, peace and well-being!” Vladimir Bidyovka said.

Also, during the official part of the event, the Speaker of Parliament handed the honorary diplomas to the employees of the City Councils for their significant personal contribution to the socio-economic and cultural development of the city, as well as the letters of gratitude from the People’s Council for active social and political activities.

In turn, the Head of the Donetsk City Council, Alexey Kulemzin, presented the Chairman of the People’s Council with the “Badge of Honour of the III degree”.
