Valery Skorokhodov: Regardless of whether Ukraine implements signed formula or not, we will be pursuing our chosen path
The conditions for a special status, elections and borders will now be determined only by the Republics. This was stated by Deputy of the DPR’s People’s Council Valery Skorokhodov in his commentary to the official website of the Donetsk People’s Republic.
ʺFive years’ experience of cooperation with Ukraine has made us lose faith in the fact that Kiev will implement the documents it has signed. And regardless of whether Ukraine implements the signed formula or not, we will be pursuing our own path that we chose in 2014: to strengthen state institutions, increase defensive capabilities, strengthen the economy and deepen integration with the Russian Federation in order to exercise our right to self-determination.
There is a lot of work to be done: it is necessary to agree on amendments in the law on a special status and the Constitution, develop an amnesty mechanism and to withdraw military forces. However, Zelensky made a statement yesterday about giving access to the border first and then there will be a special status, but the events, which took place near the Office of the President of Ukraine, cast a doubt on the willingness of Kiev to implement the Minsk agreements later on. Only the Republics, neither Zelensky nor Kuchma, decide when elections will take place, when the access to the border will be granted, which conditions for the special status will be spelled out in the Constitution. And the president of Ukraine will have to accept this by sitting down at the negotiating table together with the heads of the Republics,ʺ Valery Skorokhodov said.
