Vladimir Bidyovka presents government awards to Afghanistan veterans
On February 22, the Palace of Culture named after V.V. Kuibyshev of the city of Donetsk hosted the annual republican festival “Afghan Wind.” DPR People’s Council Chairman Vladimir Bidyovka, deputy Vladimir Savyolov, Deputy Minister of Youth Policy, Sports and Tourism Dmitry Kovyrshin attended the event.
During the event, the Chairman of the People’s Council solemnly presented the Afghanistan hostilities combatants Sergey Balkin, Sergey Lyzhin and Oleg Machizhuk with the medals “For Fidelity to Duty and Service to the Fatherland.”
In a commentary to reporters, Vladimir Bidyovka emphasized that the internationalist soldiers, who were fulfilling their duty in Afghanistan, have also defended Donbass inhabitants from Ukrainian neo-Nazis.
“The motto “Serving our country”, under which today’s contest is held, confirms in the best way that our internationalist soldiers are a tower of strength and defence of our native land.
They have been through a lot in life: they fought against global terrorism in the Democratic Republic of Afghanistan, defended the interests of Donbass in the struggle for its independence. This indicates only one thing: each of them is a fighter for the future and peace; a man with a capital M.
Today, it was an honour for me to present the medals “For Fidelity to Duty and Service to the Fatherland”. And I know that these awards are well-deserved, because each of the internationalist soldiers held the fort of justice.
On the eve of Defender of the Fatherland Day, I also congratulate you on the upcoming holiday and express my gratitude to all our servicemen for their fidelity to duty and their Fatherland,” the Speaker of Parliament said.
