Vladimir Medvedev: Yermak’s rhetoric contradicts reality
Yermak’s statements about Kiev in general and Zelensky in particular doing everything necessary to end the war in Donbass are simply populist rhetoric. This was stated by Deputy of the DPR’s People’s Council Vladimir Medvedev in a commentary to RIA Novosti.
ʺSuch statements are aimed, first and foremost, at the domestic Ukrainian electorate and have nothing to do with reality and common sense.
There is no real movement on the part of Ukraine towards resolving the conflict. Quite the contrary – shelling has increased, hate mongering has grown, people have been dying, and the principles of double morality have long ago become the standard for Ukrainian politics.
February will mark the fifth anniversary of the Minsk agreements, but neither Poroshenko nor his successor Zelensky have done anything to implement the Package of Measures over these years. It can already be announced that they purposefully sabotage “Minsk” and ignore all peace initiatives from representatives of Donbass,ʺ the parliamentarian said.
Vladimir Medvedev noted that these tendencies had become also apparent at the international level.
ʺParticipants in the Normandy format, who are the guarantors of the Minsk agreements, also admit these facts. In December 2019, the Paris package of agreements was adopted at a meeting of the heads of Russia, Germany, France and Ukraine. Zelensky’s signature is also under this document. However, Ukraine has fulfilled so far only one point out of the entire list of obligations – an exchange of prisoners without complying with all legal norms and cleansing.
The separation of forces and means at three new sites, mine clearing, implementation of “Steinmeier formula”, special status and everything else still remain on paper.
It is completely inconsistent with Kiev’s allegations about its desire for peace and casts doubt on a future meeting in the Normandy format, which is scheduled for April. The Deputy Head of the Russian Foreign Ministry Andrey Rudenko stated the same. So far, there is simply nothing to agree on with Zelensky, as with Poroshenko earlier. He does not fulfil his obligations and, presumably, is not going to,ʺ the deputy said.
