Vladislav Berdichevsky comments on possibility of deploying UN armed contingent to Donbass Republics’ territory

The proposal of the Ukrainian party on the deployment of “blue helmets” to the Donbass has no legal justification, Vladislav Berdichevsky, deputy chairman of the People’s Council Committee on Foreign Policy, International Relations, Information Policy and Information Technologies, told Komsomolskaya Pravda.

“The peacekeeping mission (of the UN – ed.) in the Donbass is not foreseen by any agreements. And Putin’s proposal was about using peacekeepers to protect the OSCE along the line of demarcation, nothing more.

But they (the Ukrainian authorities – ed.) wanted to assign the functions of the commandant’s office to the peacekeepers. And we are talking about 15-20 thousand peacekeepers, who will be empowered to disarm our military. This, of course, is impossible. Peacekeeping missions are introduced if there is a threat of ethnic conflicts to prevent cleansing. It is registered in their mandate. But ethnic cleansing does not threaten us, that’s why there is no sense of their presence,” emphasized Vladislav Berdichevsky.

He added that Kiev should discuss all proposals concerning the settlement of the situation in the Donbass with the representatives of the Republics, however, according to the deputy, under the current Ukrainian authorities, dialogue is impossible.

“Until there will be a conceptual change of power, this comprador ‘elite’, which is bought at the root, no one will talk with us. And you know that the law on the anti-corruption court has been adopted in Ukraine? That is, now every Ukrainian politician will be on the hook… They (politicians – ed.) become obedient executors of leaders from across the ocean,” the parliamentarian said.
