Vladislav Berdichevsky: Imposition of martial law is necessary for Poroshenko to maintain power
The DPR People’s Council deputy, Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Policy, International Relations, Information Policy and Technology Vladislav Berdichevsky shared his thoughts on the imposition of martial law in Ukraine with the Donetsk News Agency.
ʺTechnically, martial law can be prolonged indefinitely now until a political situation works out well for Poroshenko or vice versa – until something extraordinary happens that will bring out the end to his bloody reign,ʺ the deputy said.
According to him, a primary goal for the imposition of a special legal regime in Ukraine lies in the insignificant rating of the current president.
ʺAt the beginning of the current year, many political analysts expressed their opinions that Poroshenko would organize a provocation to introduce martial law under his insignificant rating. Everyone understands that it is necessary, just like the decision on tomos, only for a pre-election circus,ʺ Vladislav Berdichevsky noted.
It should be reminded that the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine proposed to impose martial law due to the situation in the Kerch Strait. On November 26, a corresponding draft law was reviewed and adopted by the Verkhovna Rada. The special legal regime will be imposed in ten regions of Ukraine at 9 o’clock on November 28. The list includes regions that share borders with Russia and Transnistria, part of Donbass, which is controlled by Kiev, as well as adjacent to the water area of the Azov and Black seas. The period of the special legal regime is 30 days.
The events of 25 November were used as a pretext. On this day, three Ukrainian naval vessels violated the order of passage for military ships passing through the territorial sea of the Russian Federation when coming from the Black Sea to the Sea of Azov. Weapons were used in order to stop them in the Kerch Strait, and the ships were detained and delivered to Kerch, criminal proceedings were initiated for the violation of the Russian Federation’s state border.
