Vladislav Berdichevsky: Zelensky’s team should place greater focus on meeting commitments under Package of Measures
A change of representatives of the DPR and the LPR in the Contact Group on Donbass, which was proposed by Andrey Yermak, is unacceptable. This was stated by Deputy of the DPR’s People’s Council Vladislav Berdichevsky in an interview to RIA Novosti.
ʺA replacement of Contact Group’s members for so-called ‘experts’ from the territories of Donbass controlled by Kiev, as a matter of fact, renders a process of the Minsk negotiations meaningless. After all, a main objective of the Minsk process is to let the sides of the conflict negotiate on the elimination of the conflict through diplomatic means,ʺ the deputy said.
The deputy emphasized that Yermak’s statement indicated on the Ukrainian side’s reluctance to negotiate with legitimate representatives of the DPR and LPR, who represented the interests of people residing on the territories of the People’s Republics.
ʺI am sure that suck liberties will not be tolerated by international observers and representatives of the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics, as this format is approved by a UN Security Council’s resolution. Andrey Yermak and other members of Zelensky’s team should place greater focus on meeting commitments under the Package of Measures instead of making loud statements that elections in the DPR and LPR should be held simultaneously with local elections across Ukraine on October 31, 2020,ʺ Vladislav Berdichevsky said.
He also noted that the Kiev power was openly lying about the conformity of the Constitution of Ukraine with provisions of the Complex of Measures. Amendments are necessary and should be aligned with representatives of the DPR and LPR in the first place. Also, the deputy mentioned that, according to the Steinmeier formula, which had been aligned by Yermak and signed by a Ukrainian representative Kuchma earlier, elections in Donbass would be special and they would not be tied to elections in Ukraine.
ʺIt would be useful for Andrey Yermak to become familiar with commitments made by Ukraine before announcing any initiatives. Although it can be stated that such behaviour is traditional for Ukrainian representatives,ʺ Vladislav Berdichevsky summed up.
